About repressed memories : Barbara GRIZZUTI, who had a first hand experience of the subject since she was abused by her father and can't be suspected of favorable prejudice toward the WTS, wrote in 1993 an article "desperately seeking Satan" where she adopts a very cautious approach to the problem, giving examples of children who where induced to "reveal" abuses which actually had never occurred. A very famous case "Outreau case" stirred France about 4 years ago. A judge hastily sent to jail about 15 persons, on charges of paedophilia put forth by an insane woman and children who just wanted to please her. One innocent accused man committed suicide in prison. If memory serves me well, it ended up that 13 out of 15 of these persons where proved innocent. Not a problem to take lightly if one wants to protect children when they really need it.

Watchtower policy on child abuse...link to watchtower.org
by digderidoo inthis is terrible.
i stumbled across it whilst searching watchtower.org for their 'new light' on the faithful and discreet slave.. it seems to be instructions from 1995 as to how to deal with an accusation of child abuse, i have bolded the parts i found sickening.
when the samaritan came along, his heart went out to the wounded man.

Did you loose your faith after leaving the false?
by wtfmidoing innew to this and as a nonbeliever i would like to ask how many people lost their belief in a god after leaving the wts.

Parakeet,
sorry for replying late, i've been away for a week.
Because a dub without the mind control isn't really a dub. He's a soon-to-be apostate with horror stories to tell.
Unfortunately, looks like you're right to a large extent, although I won't go as far as making it a general rule since I'm not in other people's shoes. I know of a few quite well educated JWs (a doctor, a high ranking music teacher and an engineer, for example) who are trying hard to keep balance between genuine adhesion, self censorship and free thinking. Don't know how long it can last. As for me, I've been a JW for 30 years and I'm now marked in the congregation for my apostate and "negative" expressed opinions. I feel like being a satellite orbiting at very high altitude, which a very small acceleration will send free of the attraction of this organisation.

As a group, they're the most back-biting, gossip-mongering, and smugly patronizing bunch of human beings I've ever seen.
Parakeet,
I would rather say that if some JWs are, indeed, the way you describe them, very likely, in most cases, it is the result of years long mind control policy on the part of the organisation.

PWP,
You can be witness of both can't you ? Honestly, whether it is His real name or not doesn't really matter to me, I took from the JWs that He is identified as the god of the Bible and his having a name makes sense. I still cling to that teaching, doesn't have to be wrong just because it comes from the WTS.

What Was The Very First Thing That Came Across Your Eyes That Lead You Down The Road To Doubt?

May have not been the first element but the following story definitely shook my confidence in the WTS : a former (DFed) JW, Evald VORSTEHER, was arrested by the gestapo in 1934 because they had found at his place pamphlets against Hitler. As they almalgamated him with JWs, that moved a leader of the german WTS branch, DOLLINGER, to write to the nazy authorities that JWs had nothing to do with that nut who had insulted the Fuehrer, and that JWs were law abiding germans and that NEVER had the WTS stood in the way of the regime. Eye opener.

Oh yes, named in french The divine pattern of love. As far as I can remember (was already in the old paperback purple song book) the title has been translated word for word from English. I chose it for my wedding and always found it moving. Don't know if it is a JW urban legeng, it is said to have been composed by an imprisoned JW.

I'm a believer, in Jehovah at that, but I remain with this embarassing question : if jehovah doesn't give the WTS his approval, which seems to be the case, why then has He allowed that deceiving organisation to fool so many millions of honest hearted people, capitalizing on His name ?

It seems that she's had a small life so far (said that no man has ever kissed her), I do wish her a great career and plenty of satisfactions, as a compensation for what nature has failed to give her. You go, Suzan, show them now !
